FA – Freiheitliche Arbeitnehmer
The Freiheitliche Arbeitnehmer, (Freedom Party Workers, or FA), functions as a workers' advocacy group within the Freedom Party and is one of the six recognised political groups within the Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB). This means that the FPÖ workers' organisation is also integrated into the Austrian social partnership system and therefore provides a large number of works council representatives nationwide.
The Freiheitliche Arbeitnehmer is simultaneously an independent group within the Chamber of Labour (Arbeiterkammer, or AK). At the last Chamber of Labour election, in 2019, the representatives of the Freedom Party workers achieved around 10.07 per cent of the vote nationwide. A grand total of 840 seats was available across all the provincial chambers of the AK, and of these, the Freedom Party was able to win 82.
The Freiheitliche Arbeitnehmer maintains its own provincial groups in all nine Austrian provinces and also offers the opportunity of membership. Its current demands include, for example, a job guarantee for older people, the improvement of the framework conditions for apprenticeships and their upgrading, as well as the preferential treatment of Austrian citizens in the labour market and, above all, in the social system.
