Austria’s Current Challenges in Military Strategy

Major General Robert Brieger on the tasks of the Austrian Armed Forces

At the invitation of the Liberal Group and the Austrian Freedom Party’s Education Institute, Major General Robert Brieger gave a lecture on “Austria’s current challenges in military strategy – an inventory” to roughly 100 interested individuals at Hotel Bristol on 27 February 2018.

In an extremely fascinating lecture, the audience was informed of the current developments in security policy and their impact on the focus of the Austrian Armed Forces: from the paradigm shift of the Cold War and the 2010 Armed Forces Reform, to military national defence and its targets, threats and transformations for the 2030 Agenda.

He then held a discussion with a wide audience.

Major General Robert Brieger is Chief of Staff of Austria’s Federal Minister for National Defence. In 2011, he was Commander of the EUFOR Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which comprised soldiers from 25 nations, and in 2001 and 2002 he served as Commander of the Austrian contingent in Kosovo.
