“System failure – are there ways out of the crisis?”
Lecture by Dr. Gudula Walterskirchen
The Liberal Club started on January 22, 2025 with a lecture by Dr. Gudula Walterskirchen into the new year. The journalist and editor of “Libratus” spoke about “System failure – are there ways out of the crisis?”
Given the crises of our time, which manifest themselves in various manifestations, including the failure of political systems such as the UN, Walterskirchen pointed to the importance of “checks and balances”. When systems fail, a functioning error culture is particularly important. The speaker illustrated this using Francesco Zambon's report on errors in the Italian health system and the fatal consequences of the Covid crisis, which was suppressed by the WHO. As a further example of system failure, she referred to the energy supply with the adverse effects of the “energy transition” such as dark lulls.
Walterskirchen warned against ideologies because they ignored human nature and the laws of nature and were therefore doomed to failure. The speaker considered the consideration of these factors, but also adherence to the principles of the respective disciplines and specialist areas, to be crucial for preventing system failure. In addition, when grievances are identified, it is extremely important to draw attention to them. Ultimately, the commitment of all of us to fundamental rights and freedoms is crucial.
