Seminar for election assessors for the Carinthian referendum 2025

Organizational and legal framework conditions

On January 11, 2025, the Educational Institute of the Freedom Party of Austria held a seminar to train election assessors and substitute assessors for the upcoming Carinthian referendum. The seminar took place in the municipality of Wernberg, Kaltschach district, and was dedicated to the organizational and legal framework for the vote.

The referendum, which was carried out on January 12, 2025, asks the citizens of Carinthia the question: “Should the construction of further wind turbines on mountains and alpine pastures in Carinthia be prohibited by state law in order to protect Carinthia’s nature (including the landscape)?”

After a welcome from the local party chairman and member of the state parliament, Markus di Bernardo, seminar leader Florian Pacher led the participants through the essential content of the training. The focus was on the legal basis, the organization and process at the polling station as well as the tasks of the election assessors and substitute assessors.

Particular emphasis was also placed on the practical exchange of experiences. Participants who had already worked as election assessors in the past were able to contribute their experiences and insights, which led to an informative discussion. This exchange not only promoted understanding of the processes, but also helped to clarify practical questions and challenges.

The seminar offered the participants well-founded preparation for their responsible task and underlined the importance of a smooth and legally compliant implementation of the referendum.
