Cash and the Digital Euro. Where is the Journey Heading?

On 29 January 2024, the Political Academy of the FPÖ hosted a panel discussion in Graz entitled “Cash and the Digital Euro. Where is the Journey Heading?” According to the FPÖ Consumer Affairs spokesperson and Member of the National Council Peter Wurm, “Cash is nothing less than printed freedom”. Besides Wurm, the other big names on the panel were Dr. Barbara Kolm, former vice-president of the General Council of the Austrian National Bank, Mag. Alexander Pichler, MAS, legal expert, independent financial markets expert and business analyst, and Josef Binder, initiator of the popular petition “Für uneingeschränkte Bargeldzahlung” (For unrestricted cash payments). The evening was opened by the President of the FPÖ Political Academy Dr. Axel Kassegger, who is also a Member of the National Council.

At the end of a very stimulating discussion, the FPÖ’s Consumer Affairs Spokesman Peter Wurm made it clear that the FPÖ would continue to champion the retention of cash and would seek to have this anchored in the constitution.
