Cash and the Digital Euro. Where is the Journey Heading?

Panel discussion in Wörgl

On 5 June 2024, the Political Academy of the FPÖ hosted a panel discussion in Wörgl (Tirol) entitled “Cash and the Digital Euro. Where is the Journey Heading?” According to the FPÖ Consumer Affairs spokesperson and Member of the National Council Peter Wurm, “Cash is nothing less than printed freedom”. Besides Wurm, the other big names on the panel were Dr. Andreas Oberlechner, head of the department Consumer Affairs of Arbeiterkammer Tirol (Tirol Chamber of Labour), Dr. Barbara Kolm, former vice-president of the General Council of the Austrian National Bank, and Josef Binder, initiator of the popular petition “Für uneingeschränkte Bargeldzahlung” (For unrestricted cash payments). The evening was opened by mayor Andreas Gang, member of the Tirol state parliament.

At the end of a very stimulating discussion, the FPÖ’s Consumer Affairs Spokesman Peter Wurm made it clear that the FPÖ would continue to champion the retention of cash and would seek to have this anchored in the constitution.
